These include:
Young Adults This is a new initiative and through it, the Parish sponsors canoe float trips, bonfires, game nights, and dinners.
Financial Peace University Most of the pressure on families today (whether they be a family of one or many) stems from financial problems. Financial Peace University is a national program that the Parish offers twice a year to help people talk without tension about money and budgets, manage their money, eliminate retail debt, save, invest, buy and sell property, and talk with their children about money. The program explains insurance, investments, and financial security.
Strengthening Families This program is for families with children in middle school. It helps parents and their children learn how to communicate without anger, suspicion or resentment, establish limits, cultivate healthy family relationships and deal with outside influences. This program was developed by Iowa State University and the Parish has offered it for three years. It has a statistical track record of reducing the incidence of drugs, alcohol abuse, gang influence, dangerous driving, smoking, sex before marriage and academic failure.
Blended Families When there are stepchildren and stepparents in a family, there is often conflict. Success rates of couples with children between the ages of 9 and 18 who remarry is very low. This program, developed by our Diocese about 20 years ago, has a wonderful success rate of helping couples preserve their marriages, strengthen their relationship with their children and enjoy life together as a family.
Sundays Together Each Sunday after 9:39 Mass, when Gannon Hall is not booked for another activity, the Family Life Commission sponsors breakfast for Parish families. Usually it includes fruit, pastries, juice, milk, and coffee. Families have a little time together to relax, see their Parish friends and have a light breakfast.
